A DIY Tacky Christmas Sweater

December 16, 2013 by brenna 43 Comments

Has the Holiday madness hit your house yet? With two Christmas parties this weekend we are definitely feeling a little worn out, but it was so worth it. We had a wonderful time with friends celebrating the season.

Last night we went to my husband’s work party, which was an Tacky Christmas Sweater party. I was surprised at how hard it was to find a tacky Christmas Sweater, especially for my husband. I definitely didn’t want to pay a lot for something we would wear only one night, and I had no luck in my thrift store searches. So, we took matters into our own hands. My husband masterminded the design, and I was the seamstress that made it happen.

We took the antlers off of a headband and I made a stencil with this Silhouette Shape to make these funky glasses out of felt. We finished it with a pom pom and the result was simply tacky!

A Tacky Christmas Sweater
It definitely turned out tacky, huh? I’m still surprised at how well it came together, and it seemed to be a big hit. I mean he got a lot of funny looks, and I think that is what you want in a tacky sweater.

Now that the Christmas parties are done, I have my sights set on finishing Christmas gifts this next week. I’m a little nervous of my approaching deadline, there might be a few late nights in my future.

This great prize would buy all of the gifts for my Children and Grandchildren. Working on homemade stuff this year because this economy uses all my cash.

Some hard to shop for tweens and teens are left on my list. I know they would love Amazon gift cards (not all $250 of course) but I could get them all covered with this and maybe have a little leftover for myself 🙂

2013 has been a challenging year, so I have all of my gifts left to finish making or buy. This would help take off some of the pressure to crochet till my fingers bleed the next few days, haha!
